It has generally been the tendency of noble spirits to seclude themselves in order to practise piety and holiness away from the temptations of the world. But Christianity, as found in its source, the New Testament,, although leaving no doubt as to the need and importance of prayer and meditation in the Christian's life, equally emphasizes the need and importance of his practically living according to its tenets and doctrines within the framework of his every day human relations.

Christ and the Present Crisis

The fact that every effect has a cause is indisputable.  Upon that truth, especially as regards man and his actions, the apostle Paul wrote 2,000 years ago to the Christians in Galatia: «whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap» (Gal. 6:7). What followed man's fall in Eden was a worldwide crisis, evident in all sectors of human life. In other words it was man's apostasy from God, and his attachment, in the form of greed, to matter and money. The Bible says: «The love of money is the root of all evil» (1 Tim. 6:10).

Recently we have been witnessing a great credit crisis that shows the disastrous  results of man's greed in a most painful way. The present economic crisis, that shook all the stock markets around the world, is owed to no other cause than that.  The greed of the speculators, the arrogance of the executive managers and the hidden traps set by people standing high up on the pyramid, were the obvious causes behind the economic crisis. However, the real motive of all those was to build another tower of Babel based on money. They built on the erroneous conviction that they could reach God, surpass and disprove Him. Mammon has been a god as ancient as man. Worship of that god perverts and corrupts everything. Men all over the globe allowed their hopes for well-being and prosperity to rest on false assurances given by the so-called «golden boys» of the world's biggest economic institutions. They invested in an all-devouring system, which knows no limits and barriers, no rules and laws, no justice and ethics. The end result is what we all experience now, not being able to foresee what lies still ahead.

Behind the scenes hides the prince of this world, Satan, whose existence few admit, and under whose power all lie, except those that have received Christ as their personal Savior. The Bible says:  "the whole world lieth in wickedness"(lit. «in the wicked one») (1 John 5: 19). Every day we hear and read of the rapidly increasing numbers of divorces, same-sex marriages, unprecedented soaring of crime rate, immorality and corruption of all sorts in all segments of society etc., etc. Mankind is dragged over the precipice of total destruction by Satan without any resistance, since God has been asked to leave them alone!

However, there is hope for man, both individually and collectively. And that hope is a person; it is our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Who died on the Cross for our sins and rose from the dead as a warrant of our justification before God. Now, reader and friend, if you agree that nowhere and in no one else you can depend for your salvation from eternal punishment, all you have to do in order to be saved, is to trust Christ as your personal Savior and Lord. He is waiting for you. He will embrace you with infinite love and give you salvation and eternal life. Will you trust Him, and trust Him now? I wholeheartedly hope and wish you will. Amen. Written in Greek by John Ioannou; rendered in English by Markos Boussios.
