It has generally been the tendency of noble spirits to seclude themselves in order to practise piety and holiness away from the temptations of the world. But Christianity, as found in its source, the New Testament,, although leaving no doubt as to the need and importance of prayer and meditation in the Christian's life, equally emphasizes the need and importance of his practically living according to its tenets and doctrines within the framework of his every day human relations.

Neapolis(Kavala) and the wild fire

Kavala is a thriving modern Greek city of about 100,000 inhabitants. In the New Testament times it was called Neapolis (Νea Polis=New City), and was here that Paul and his companions landed coming from Troas. From here they came to Philippi where God blessed them with a rich harvest of souls, amid suffering and persecution,  resulting in the establishment of the first Church on European soil. Looking at that picture and not knowing that a wild fire is devouring beautiful forests on the other side of the mountain, one might enjoy the view, but reality saddens our hearts and turns our thought to what will happen when, according to Scripture, "the earth...and the works that are therein shall be burned up" (2 Pet. 3: 10). And furthermore makes one think of the eternal fire of hell prepared for the devil and his angels, as well as for all those who willfully reject Christ. I plead with you, reader, not to reject Christ or neglect the salvation of your soul, but that you, right now, as you read these lines, accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior by faith and be eternally saved!
