This woman had been a slave somewhere in Africa. Her owners finally, after a good number of years of slavish service, decided to reward her with the biggest of gifts in the case: her freedom! She realized the difference when she got her first pay for her work. She went on working and earning money. She spent part of it on her basic needs and saved the rest. When asked what she saved that money for, she answered: So that I can buy a slave to make her work for me! Unregenerate human nature in its total depravity! The story, unfortunately, isn't the only one. It has been repeated by the thousands from the beginning of history all over the world. But, reader, let us turn our mind to our liberation from sin through the blood of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ! He said: "Whosoever commiteth sin is the servant of sin. ... If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:34,36). How grateful we should be to God for this freedom! Only those who have received Christ as their personal Savior are free indeed, and we who are among them praise Him and will be doing so forever!
